The invention discloses a system for automatic replacement of a battery of an electric vehicle. The battery is installed on one side of the upper portion of the electric vehicle. The system comprises a horizontal framework, a plurality of battery seats, a pair of fixed guide rails, a variable guide rail, a movable rail and a gripping device, wherein the horizontal framework is provided with a predetermined area and formed at the position higher than the electric vehicle; the multiple battery seats are formed on the bottom surface of the horizontal framework at predetermined intervals; the pair of fixed guide rails are arranged and installed on the front side and rear side or the left side and right side of the horizontal framework respectively; the variable guide rail can move horizontally along the fixed guide rails in the x-axis direction or the y-axis direction; the movable rail can move horizontally along the variable guide rail in the x-axis direction or the y-axis direction and ascend or descend vertically; the gripping device is installed at the lower end of the movable rail and can pick up the battery of the electric vehicle or a battery located on one of the battery seats and enable the two batteries to be exchanged with each other.
