Embodiment approach

[0090] According to certain example embodiments, the following CCP message types are defined:

[0091] 1: hello

[0092] 2: hello reply

[0093] 3: Hong

[0094] 4: Hong Reply

[0095] 5: keep alive

[0096] 6: Keep alive reply

[0097] 7: SRT shutdown

[0098] 8: MPLS FIB configuration

[0099] 9: MPLS FIB configuration reply

[0100] Figure 8 is a block diagram illustrating an example hello message 86 in accordance with the techniques of this disclosure. Hello message 87 is a link-local broadcast message used to discover neighbors across point-to-point links. A node periodically sends hello messages on its link at a rate selected by the sending node. Hello messages are used to discover and determine link liveness. In one example aspect, the source address of the Ethernet header must be the MAC address of the sending node, and the destination address must be all F's.

[0101] In one example, the hello message has Figure 8 structure shown in. The link index fie...

Abstract

An access network is described in which a centralized controller provides seamless end-to-end service from a core-facing edge of a service provider network through aggregation and access infrastructure out to access nodes located proximate to the subscriber devices. The controller operates to provide a central configuration point for configuring aggregation nodes (AGs) of a network of the service provider so as to provide transport services to transport traffic between access nodes (AXs) and edge routers on opposite borders of the network.

Description

[0001] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application No. 61 / 738,955, filed December 18, 2012, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0002] The present invention relates to computer networks. Background technique [0003] A wide variety of devices connect to service provider networks for accessing resources and services provided by packet-based data networks such as the Internet, intranets, content providers, and virtual private networks (VPNs). For example, many fixed computers utilize fixed communication links of a service provider network, such as optical digital subscriber lines or cable-based connections, for accessing packet-based services. Additionally, a large number of mobile devices, such as cellular or mobile smart phones and feature phones, tablets and laptops, utilize mobile connections of service provider networks, such as cellular radio access networks, for accessing packet-based services.
