Abstract

The invention provides an elevator monitoring device and method. Images of a camera part arranged downward inclinedly in a cab are processed and judgement of whether the cab is crowd or not is made. The camera part arranged downward in an inclined manner is used for taking pictures in the cab of an elevator. A mark of a known height in the cab is taken as a reference for measuring height of a part of passengers. The passengers are tracked in the cab based on the pictures taken by the camera part. A part of the passengers on the picture is taken as input and a projection position observed from the above of the part of the passengers projected to the ground of the cab from the camera part is calculated. Based on the height of the camera part, the height of a part of the above passengers and a position relation of the camera part and the projection, a standing position of the passengers from the overlook is calculated. Based on the standing position of the passengers, the occupancy of all the passengers in the cab from the overlook is estimated and the crowdness of the cab is judged based on the occupied area.
