An alloy comprises, by weight, 4.2 to 5.4% of Zn, 1.8 to 2.6% of Mg, 0.15 to 0.35% of Cu, 0.3 to 0.7% of Mn, 0.05 to 0.25% of Cr, no more than 0.15% of Ti, 0.3 to 0.6% of Si, no more than 0.25% of Fe, 0.1 to 0.2% of Zr, 0.08 to 0.14% of Cd, 0.04 to 0.06% of In, 0.3 to 0.05% of Sc, 0.025 to 0.045% of Er and 0.01 to 0.02% of Tm, with the balance being Al.
