A system and method of controlling a hybrid electric vehicle includes controlling torque of a traction motor in response to a temporary motor torque adjusted based on a difference between a measured traction motor speed and a calculated vehicle speed, and the Temporary electric motor torque is filtered to attenuate powertrain resonant frequencies.
