Embodiment Construction

[0025] figure 1 A schematic projection of a prior art projection system 100 is shown. Projection system 100 includes light source 105 that provides (eg transmits) light 110 that travels along optical path 115 . According to some embodiments, light source 105 includes a lamp, such as a xenon lamp, and a parabolic reflector. According to some embodiments, the light source 105 includes a laser light source module. Light 110 is transmitted to intermediate optics 120 . Intermediate optics 120 modulate light 110 to produce beams 125a, 125b, and 125c, collectively referred to as beams 125 and depicted briefly as arrows. Intermediate optics 120 may include, for example, one or more of bonded rods, prisms, relay lenses, and mirrors. It will be appreciated that light 110 includes light beams 125a, 125b and 125c. In other words, light beams 125a, 125b, and 125c are a portion or subset of light 110 .

[0026] Each light beam 125a, 125b, and 125c travels along a respective optical pa...

Abstract

A system for generating an image having a high dynamic range, comprising an image system comprising: a light source providing light along an optical path; a digital micromirror device for directing a portion of the light to an off-state optical path and an on-state optical path , thereby producing an image; and a deformable optical element disposed between the light source and the digital micromirror device for diverting at least some of the light from the light path in the off state to the light path in the on state, thereby increasing the digital micromirror device. The dynamic range of the image that the mirror device can produce. The deformable optical element consists of at least one steerable portion and at least one stationary element.

Description

technical field [0001] This specification relates to projection systems in general, and in particular to systems and methods for generating high dynamic range images. Background technique [0002] Current projection systems require digital micromirror device (DMD) illumination that is uniform across the entire DMD imaging surface. In other words, these systems require each mirror of the DMD to receive approximately equal amounts of light, such that the illumination of the brightest areas will be determined by the overall illumination of the DMD's mirrors. This may result in that the projected image is not a true reproduction of the original or desired image, especially if the original or desired image consists of a high dynamic range image. Contents of the invention [0003] According to one embodiment, there is provided a system for generating an image having a high dynamic range, comprising a system of images comprising: a light source providing light along an optical p...
