Abstract

The present invention relates to a precision volume liquid dispensing apparatus and method comprising: two pressure transducers; and a fluid channel having a defined volume communicating with the two pressure transducers for receiving and dispensing a relatively small volume of liquid. One of the pressure sensors is arranged to measure the pressure at a portion of the defined volume of the fluid channel and the other of the pressure sensors is arranged to measure the pressure at a different portion of the defined volume of the fluid channel . At least one valve is in communication with the fluid channel for allowing fluid to flow into and out of the defined volume of the fluid channel, and the processor performs a step selected from the group consisting of: (i) based on the measured pressure calculating the volume of liquid; and (ii) metering the liquid into the prescribed volume of the fluid channel until the measured pressure indicates a desired volume of fluid within the fluid channel.
