Embodiment approach

[0087] Clause 1. A hybrid resonator having acoustic absorption and reflection capabilities, the hybrid resonator comprising:

[0088] a rigid structure defining a cell;

[0089] a front layer attached to the rigid structure; and

[0090] a backing layer attached to the rigid structure and within the unit;

[0091] wherein the front layer is configured to reflect sound waves within a predetermined frequency range;

[0092] Wherein the rigid structure, the front layer and the back layer define a Helmholtz cavity, and wherein the Helmholtz cavity is configured to absorb acoustic energy at frequencies within the predetermined frequency range.

[0093] Clause 2. The hybrid resonator of Clause 1, wherein the front layer is configured to reflect acoustic waves at an anti-resonant frequency.

[0094] Clause 3. The hybrid resonator of clause 1 or 2, wherein the front layer comprises a plurality of apertures.

[0095] Clause 4. The hybrid resonator of any one of clauses 1 to 3, wher...

Abstract

The present invention provides hybrid resonators and arrays of hybrid resonators, in particular hybrid acoustic blockers and absorbers. The hybrid acoustic absorption and reflection resonator can include a rigid structure defining the cell, a membrane having at least one aperture attached to the rigid structure, and a back sheet attached to the rigid structure and covering the cell. The membrane is configured to reflect sound waves within a predetermined frequency range. The rigid structure, membrane and backsheet define a Helmholtz cavity; the Helmholtz cavity is configured to absorb acoustic energy at frequencies within a predetermined frequency range.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to an antiresonant membrane, a structure for holding such a membrane, and a hybrid reflective absorbing housing defined by such an antiresonant membrane and support structure. Background technique [0002] Noise can be detrimental in many environments. Noise is widely recognized as harmful and as a pollution source of noise can be highly penetrating and destructive. People can experience negative effects due to noise, such as hearing loss, nausea, high blood pressure, increased stress, and the like. Noise pollution sources are frequent sources of noise pollution due to machines such as motorcycles, aircraft, trains, generators, grinders, mixers, microwave ovens, sump pumps, and many others. Many such machines are capable of emitting noise at a relatively constant level over long periods of time. [0003] Various attempts have been made to provide noise reduction. Many noise masking solutions are directly rela...
