The management device comprises an establishment instruction acquisition unit, a virtual disk establishment unit, a storage capacity distribution unit, a virtual disk formatting unit and a virtual disk mounting unit. The distributed storage system comprises the virtual disk management device and a storage resource pool. The virtual disk is formatted according to an operating system of the virtual machine where the virtual disk is to be mounted after being established, and is mounted to the virtual machine through the hot-plug data transmission protocol.
