Abstract

A composite coil spring (20), comprising a spring wire body (2) extending along a coil axis (24). The spring wire body includes a core (38) and a plurality of fiber layers (32) impregnated with a polymer material. A plurality of fiber layers are arranged around the core at positions at different radial distances from the spiral axis. The fibers in each fiber layer are at an oblique fiber angle relative to the helical axis and extend around the helical axis. Each fiber layer includes a number of fibers that is the product of the common fiber base number multiplied by a non-zero positive integer selected from a set of non-zero positive integers. The non-zero positive integer of at least one fiber layer is different from the non-zero positive integer of at least one other fiber layer.
