Embodiment Construction

[0018] first reference figure 1 , shows in block diagram form an ultrasound system constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention. The probe 10 has a two-dimensional array transducer 12 which in this example is curved in the elevation dimension, such as shown in US Patent 7,927,280 (Davidsen). The elements of the array are coupled to a microbeamformer 14 of the probe located behind the transducer array. The microbeamformer applies timed delivery pulses to elements of the array to deliver beams in desired directions, and to desired focal points in the three-dimensional image field in front of the array. The echoes from the transmit beam are received by the array elements and coupled to the delay of the microbeamformer 14 where they are individually delayed. Delayed signals of groups of transducer elements comprising a patch are combined to form a partially summarized signal for a patch. The elements of the patch in this embodiment are operated togethe...

Abstract

An array transducer probe has transducer elements arranged in adjacent patches of transducer element groups. Microbeamformers in the probe are coupled to the elements of the array to deliver ultrasound beams and delay echo signals received by the transducer elements. In a standard configuration, the elements of each tile are coupled to the summary node of that tile. Elements of each tile may also be coupled to summary nodes of one or more adjacent tiles. For multi-line reception, some of the elements of the active aperture are coupled to the summing node of one tile, and other elements of the active aperture are coupled to the summing node of the other tile. This coupling provides at least two different patch signals to the channels of the system beamformer for multi-line processing.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to medical diagnostic ultrasound systems, and in particular to an ultrasound transducer probe with a microbeamformer for multiline imaging. Background technique [0002] Ultrasound array transducers can be configured as a single row of transducer elements, a one-dimensional (1D) array for imaging a two-dimensional (2D) image plane, or a two-dimensional array of transducer elements for imaging a three-dimensional region (2D) array. The 2D array includes elements extending in both azimuth and altitude, which can be operated completely independently to focus and steer the beam in any azimuth or altitude direction. These arrays can be configured in flat or curved orientations. The present invention proposes an array transducer using a microbeamformer coupled to a set of array elements that partially beamforms the set of elements for the formation of multiple receive lines in response to a single transmit event. [0003] Two...
