Embodiment Construction

[0009] It is known to clean textiles with solid particulate cleaning materials. Such cleaning materials may comprise a plurality of polymer particles, such as a plurality of nylon beads. A relatively small amount of liquid is introduced into the material to lubricate the "flow" of particles within the clean chamber. Embodiments of this known textile cleaning method utilize a device comprising a drum which rotates to allow mechanical interaction between the cleaning material and the textile to be cleaned.

[0010] For further details of known textile cleaning methods reference should be made to: WO2012 / 098408; WO2012 / 056252; WO2012 / 095677; WO2012 / 035353; WO2012 / 035342; ; WO2010 / 094959.

[0011] It is proposed here to clean textiles using known methods and to use particulate cleaning materials in order to remove oxide layers, in particular significantly damaged oxide layers, from aluminum semi-finished products or products. The proposed method finds particular application in ...

Abstract

A method for at least partially removing an oxide layer from the surface of an aluminum semi-product or product. The method includes introducing a work in progress or product into a processing chamber and exposing the work in progress or product to a solid particulate cleaning material. The material contains a large number of particles.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to can making methods, and more particularly to an improved method for making aluminum cans, such as aluminum beverage cans. Background technique [0002] In common aluminum can production processes, the aluminum material has to be cleaned at many different stages in the production process, eg to remove dirt and liquid films from the material. A common cleaning stage may involve immersing the aluminum material in water, possibly containing a cleaning agent, or spraying the material with water, either before or after forming the can body. [0003] It is well known that aluminum undergoes oxidation to form an oxide layer on its surface when exposed to air. The oxide layer will crack during the can making process causing visible surface damage. In order to improve the surface finish and make the surface suitable for inking it is necessary to remove the cracked oxide layer. The conventional water-based cleaning stages descr...
