The invention discloses a phase splitting tap-based switched reluctance motor system with a fault tolerance function and a fault diagnosis method of the system. The system includes a switched reluctance motor, a power converter, a rotation speed detection device, a current sensor, a controller and fault tolerant topology. According to the switched reluctance motor system and the fault diagnosis method thereof of the invention, based on fault analysis and fault-tolerant operation of an SRM under a traditional control strategy, phase splitting tap-based switched reluctance motor fault diagnosis and fault tolerant topology under different control strategies can effectively ensure fault-tolerant operation of the motor when faults occur on the motor; the improvement of hardware and software is considered comprehensively; and a traditional asymmetrical half bridge and an inverter bridge are connected in parallel, so that the fault-tolerant operation of the motor can be stilled ensured when open-circuiting or short-circuiting faults occur on windings and switching tubes. The switched reluctance motor system has the advantages of structural modularization and easiness in control.
