The method includes the following steps that: control abilities of a predetermined APP used by a user is received, wherein the control abilities include one ability selected from the ability of the predetermined APP to control device type and the ability of the predetermined APP to control a function list; functions corresponding to the control abilities are compared with functions owned by target intelligent home electric appliances, wherein the target intelligent home electric appliances are intelligent home electric appliances of the same type which the user is determined to use; and a function set commonly belonging to the functions corresponding to the control abilities and the functions owned by the target intelligent home electric appliances is transmitted to the home gateway, and the target intelligent home electric appliances can be controlled by functions in the function set. With the method, the cloud platform and the home gateway of the invention adopted, fixed apps of the target intelligent home electric appliances are not needed to be used, and problems existing in unified control on heterogeneous home electric appliances caused by incapability of mixed use of different APPs configured on the heterogeneous home electric appliances can be solved.
