The detection method comprises the following steps: adhering a working strain gage and a temperature measurer of a temperature stress detection device to the surface of a to-be-detected material of an external thermal insulation system by using weather-proof glue; respectively adhering dummy gauges to the surface of compensating test blocks with material the same with that of the to-be-detected material, and arranging the compensating test blocks in a temperature environment the same with that to a to-be-detected thermal insulation system so as to compensate the measurement data of the working strain gage; and collecting data by using a data collector, reading strain data by using computer software connected with the data collector, and multiplying strain by elasticity modulus of the material so as to calculate temperature stress.
