[0100] Provided herein are systems and methods generally related to diverting fluid, such as diverting cerebrospinal fluid in the treatment of hydrocephalus. The present invention provides self-cleaning catheters comprising separate tips configured such that a pulsating flow of fluid in a lumen into which the catheter is inserted enables the tips to strike each other, thereby clearing obstructions. Catheters with built-in flow indicators are also available. An exemplary flow indicator includes a protrusion that extends radially inward from an inner surface of the catheter and that includes an imageable portion (eg, a portion visible under magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)). Movement of the flow indicator caused by fluid flowing through the catheter can be detected using MRI, providing a reliable indication as to whether the catheter is partially or fully occluded.
