Embodiment Construction

[0069] A part of a formwork for a concrete slab according to an embodiment of the invention generally consists of figure 1 Indicated by arrow 1 in . Templates use blocks generally indicated by arrows 2-5. Each block (eg block 2 ) has four sides 6 - 9 and a top surface 10 . Such as figure 2 As shown in the cross-sectional view of , the sides are sloped in this embodiment. The blocks with hollow interiors are formed from molded pulp-like cardboard slurry of sufficient thickness and rigidity to withstand the weight and pressure of the poured concrete forming the concrete slab.

[0070] In a first step of the method, the blocks are placed next to each other at the site where the concrete slab is to be formed, the spaces between adjacent blocks forming rows 11 , 12 . The side edges of adjacent (ie closest) blocks (eg edges of sides 7 and 13) are substantially parallel to each other. The blocks are placed on the ground with the top surface 10 uppermost.

Abstract

A method and apparatus for forming formwork for ribbed concrete slabs or well beam concrete slabs, the apparatus comprising: a rectangular block (with a protrusion around a base having a half the desired width); and wedge connectors. The wedge connector has an engagement portion configured to engage an engagement portion on each block. In a preferred method, the blocks are laid such that the protrusions of adjacent blocks are in contact. A wedge connector is then placed at each intersection of the four blocks by engaging the wedge connector and the respective joint of each block so that the wedge connector connects each of the four blocks remain in place relative to each other. The wedge connectors are also configured to hold reinforcing rods laid in channels between adjacent blocks.

Description

[0001] Statement corresponding to the application [0002] This application is based on the provisional specification filed in relation to New Zealand Patent Application No. 611576, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for forming formwork for concrete slabs, and a method of using the formwork for forming concrete slabs. In particular, the present invention relates to an apparatus and method for securing together parts of a formwork prior to pouring a ribbed or waffle concrete slab. Background technique [0004] Concrete slabs are often used in the construction of modern structures, either as floors or walls. A common technique for flooring is to use blocks, usually formed of polystyrene, forming part of the formwork for the panels. Using such blocks has several advantages, including: filling a space that would otherwise be filled with concrete (saving material c...
