Embodiment 1

[0327] Example 1. Construction of a Syringe Injection Device

[0328] build as Figure 1A , 1B , 5, 8A-B and 9A-D and a syringe injection device 60 of the type described in detail. The device includes plunger 92 and syringe barrel 91 , needle shield controller 71 , needle shield 72 and injection needle 81 . The device is configured such that a standard 1 cc syringe barrel 91 containing a plunger 92 but no needle can be detachably attached to the needle shield controller 71 . To allow laparoscopic access to a portion of the liver, the diameter of the needle sheath 72 is 5 mm and the length of the needle sheath 72 is 300 mm (see e.g. Figure 1A , showing the syringe barrel removed from the needle shield controller at position 900a, and Figure 1B , showing the syringe barrel attached to the needle shield controller in position 900b).

[0329] As constructed, the syringe barrel 91 is connected to the needle shield controller 71 and the injection needle 81 is connected to the s...

Embodiment 2

[0331] Example 2. Transduction of Liver Compartmentation in a Laparoscopic Simulator

[0332] The gripper device and the injection device 60 described in Example 1 were used by a skilled surgeon / physician in a laparoscopic simulator to grip a portion of the left middle lobe of the liver to compartmentalize the area for delivery of the injection solution. A laparoscopic simulator (Lapa-Pro, Mexico) was placed at a 35°-45° inclination to simulate the subject's semi-Fowler position. The semi-Fowler position facilitates access to the distal portion of the left lobe of the human liver, using gravity to mobilize the abdominal organs distally. Regarding the subjects, the simulator entrances were placed as follows: 1 entrance in the epigastric region; 1 entrance in the umbilicus region; and 2 entrances in the left lumbo-abdominal region.

[0333] Place freshly obtained dead pig livers inside a laparoscopic simulator. The laparoscope is inserted through the umbilical entrance. Lapar...
