Abstract

The invention provides a flooding restraining method and apparatus. The flooding restraining method comprises the steps of receiving a VXLAN (Virtual Extensible Local Area Network) multicast message having a free ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) message identifier and carrying a free message; and generating public network ARP flooding restraining information based on the VXLAN multicast message, wherein a VXLAN identifier of the public network ARP flooding restraining information, an address of a source tunnel end point, an IP address of a terminal and an MAC address of the terminal correspond to a VXLAN identifier of the VXLAN multicast message, an outer layer IP address of the VXLAN multicast message, a transmitting end IP address of the free ARP message, and a transmitting end MAC address of the free ARP message respectively. Based on the method and the apparatus, an exchanger serving as a gathering point in a VXLAN generates the public network ARP flooding restraining information so as to restrain ARP message flooding in the VXLAN.
