Abstract

An apparatus for optical coherence tomography comprising: a light source (210); a first arm comprising a first dispersive optical component (220, 234, 230) A first amount of dispersion is induced in light passing through the first arm, which constitutes one of the sample and reference arms of the interferometer; the second arm, which includes a second dispersive optical assembly (220, 244 , 246, 248; 520), the second dispersive optical component induces a second amount of dispersion in light from the light source passing through the second arm, the second arm constituting the other of the sample arm and the reference arm, the second amount of dispersion is greater than the first amount of dispersion; a processing unit (262) configured to process an interference signal representative of light from the first arm for dispersion-encoded full-range optical coherence tomography and light from the second arm, wherein for any subassembly of one or more optical elements in the second dispersive optical assembly, the amount of dispersion induced by the subassembly in light traversing the second arm different from the first amount of dispersion.
