The method comprises the steps that a to-be-retrieved three-dimensional model of which the surface is split into multiple surface patches is acquired; the three-dimensional model is subjected to normalization processing to obtain a normalized three-dimensional model; an outer surrounding sphere of the normalized three-dimensional model is established, and all the surface patches of the normalized three-dimensional model are projected to the outer surrounding sphere in the normal vector directions of the surface patches to obtain a spherical projection drawing; retrieving is conducted in a preset database according to the spherical projection drawing to obtain the model similarity. The relative position relations among points are described with vectors in space, and the vectors have the directivity; the spherical projection drawing is obtained by conducting projecting in the normal vector directions, the normal vectors are related to the directions, the directions are not taken into account in the prior art, and therefore the retrieval matching degree can be improved when retrieving is conducted through the method.
