Problems solved by technology

[0011] · The lower mechanical strength of the temporary Spacer compared to conventional prostheses leads to the fact that the patient has to limit the load (height of the load and number of load cycles) and thus the extra restrict its mobility
[0012] Due to the rough shape of the cement spacer, in most cases only or very imprecise friction pairs can be created, which leads to increased wear and insufficient guidance and stability of the joint

Embodiment Construction

[0053] figure 1 Shown is a spacer or spacer 1 according to the invention, which consists of a shaft 2 with protruding receiving elements 13 for a sleeve 3 and a head 4 . The handle 2 and the head 4 consist of ceramics. In this embodiment, the sleeve 3 consists of metal. In order that the stem 2 can be implanted more torque-resistant in the bone, it has a rectangular or oval shape in cross-section.

[0054] figure 2 Only handle 2 is shown. At the indicated position A1, it has an anatomical design. At the indicated position A2, the shank has a larger radius. In region A3 there are only softer transitions in cross section. The shank has a maximum cross-section of 14*14 in the area of A4.

[0055] image 3 Different sizes of handle 2 are shown. Figure 4 A conventional ball head 5 compared to a ball head 4 for a Spacer containing a sleeve 3 is shown. The ball head 4 is larger than conventional ball heads 5 for hip prostheses.

Abstract

The invention discloses a ceramic spacer for the two-sided replacement of implants in shoulder, knee, and hip as a result of infections. The invention relates to a spacer (1) comprised of individual components (2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 12) as joint replacement in the arthroplasty of shoulder, knee, and hip for the temporary surgical care of infections in the joint. The problems addressed by the invention are those of avoiding an adhesion of the bone to the spacer and a release of wear products, achieving that the patient does substantially not experience any mobility restriction, and keeping the wear and tear of the spacer as little as possible. These problems are solved in that at least one component of the spacer (1) is made of a ceramic material, of a plurality of ceramic materials, or of a non-ceramic material having a ceramic coating.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a spacer in individual parts ("Spacer") for the temporary surgical treatment of infections in joints as a joint substitute in endocanalization of the shoulder, knee and hip. Background technique [0002] Spacers (also known as Spacers) are known in the field of arthroplasty and are used temporarily due to cannulation to aid in the healing of bacterial infections and to allow minimal functionality of the mechanics of the joint device during the healing phase sex becomes possible. [0003] In this case, this aid in healing is achieved by the local, possibly controlled administration of antibiotic or antibacterial substances. The minimum functionality of the joint is achieved when the Spacer has at least the following form elements: [0004] • A rod or handle on the distal side, similar to that of an artificial hip joint, which supports the Spacer in the medullary canal of the thigh. [0005] • A proximal ball segment o...
