Embodiment Construction

[0029] In the exemplary embodiments described below, elements that are functionally or structurally similar to each other have the same or similar reference numerals where possible. Therefore, in order to understand the characteristics of the individual elements of the drawings, please also refer to the description of the other drawings or the general description of the present invention. The function of an exemplary embodiment of a fuel cell stack and an exemplary embodiment of a corresponding method for operating a fuel cell stack are respectively described below.

[0030] figure 1 A schematic diagram of a fuel cell stack 10 is shown. The fuel cell stack 10 includes a cell stack 12 having a plurality of individual battery cells 14 arranged adjacent to each other. The individual battery cells 14 are arranged with their long sides facing one another in a sandwich fashion in order to enable an electrical series connection of the individual battery cells 14 . Each single cell...

Abstract

The invention relates to a fuel cell stack (10) having a cell stack (12) of individual cells (14) arranged adjacent to one another and a tensioning device (20) for compressing the cell stack (12). Each single cell (14) has two electrode layers (16) and an electrolyte layer (18) disposed between the electrode layers (16). The tensioning device (20) includes at least one tensioning element (22) extending from one end of the battery cell stack (12) to the other end of the battery cell stack (12). Additionally, the fuel cell stack (10) includes at least one piezoelectric actuator (40) for pressing an end plate (38) against one end of the cell stack (12). The invention also relates to a corresponding method for operating a fuel cell stack (10).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a fuel cell stack having a cell stack of individual cells arranged adjacent to one another and a tensioning device for compressing the cell stack. The invention also relates to a method for operating a fuel cell stack. Background technique [0002] A fuel cell stack usually contains a plurality of individual cells, which are arranged next to one another in the cell stack, and wherein the chemical energy is converted directly into electrical energy in each case by the reaction of the fuel with the oxidizing agent. Each single cell in turn comprises a plurality of plates or layers, two of which are designed as electrodes. An electrolyte layer is provided between the electrodes. Additional layers are, for example, gas diffusion layers for uniform distribution of gaseous fuel and oxidant, or separation layers for delimitation with respect to adjacent single battery cells. Seals at the outer edges of the layers or panels prevent ...
