Abstract

The method comprises the following steps: determining a media access control MAC address that has thehash collisions; storing table entry information of the MAC address in a user-defined forwarding table L2-USER-ENTRY of a switching chip; and when a message which takes the MAC address as a destination address is received, forwarding the message by querying the table entry information of the MAC address from the L2-USER-ENTRY table. The method for processing the hash collisions provided by the invention solves the problems that the prior art needs to modify hardware design and the cost is increased in response to the hash collisions, and can effectively alleviate the hash collisions of the MAC address without modifying the hardware design and increasing the hardware cost.
