[0041] A network-connected security camera system (referred to as an IP camera system) and related methods for handling secure transmission and storage of video signals from the camera system are disclosed herein. Specifically, the disclosed IP camera implements a method comprising the steps of decomposing each video data file into discrete segments and then storing them on a plurality of dispersed network storage nodes. According to one aspect, the video signal captured by the IP camera is split into file slice fragments using object storage technology. The disclosed IP camera system also disperses the discrete segments in multiple transport streams and sends the discrete segments to multiple storage nodes. In a preferred embodiment, the plurality of storage nodes are distributed, eg, they are located at different geographical locations.

Abstract

According to the invention herein, the method for secure transmission of signals from a camera includes the steps of: separating output video signals from processing units inside the camera into discrete pieces; and dispersing these discrete pieces among multiple transmission streams to multiple storage nodes wherein no transmission stream has sufficient data for reconstructing the media files. Ina preferred embodiment, the multiple storage nodes are located in diverse geographic locations. Preferably, there is error correction coding of the discrete pieces.
