Embodiment 1

[0305] Alloys 3–8 listed in Table 1 were successfully fabricated in sizes 53–180 μm by commercial atomization processes for their use as feedstock for plasma transferred arc welding and laser cladding. Alloys 1 and 2 are for the nominal chemical compositions of the powders produced listed in Table 1. These powders were used in a plasma transferred arc welding process with the parameters provided in Table 5 to produce hardfacing.

Abstract

Embodiments of alloys that form non-magnetic strong carbides are disclosed herein. In particular, the alloys can be advantageously used in powder production. Embodiments of the present disclosure may have a low FCC-BCC transition temperature and hard particles with a hardness of 1000 Vickers or higher. The alloys may be used in conjunction with, for example, drill pipe tool joints, drill collars, downhole stabilizers or oilfield components, particularly as hardbanding components.

Description

[0001] Incorporation by reference of any priority application [0002] Any and all applications for which foreign or domestic priority claims are identified in the Application Data Sheet filed with this application are hereby incorporated by reference under 37 CFR 1.57. technical field [0003] The present disclosure generally relates to non-magnetic alloys that can be produced using common metal powder fabrication techniques as effective raw materials for plasma transferred arc and laser cladding hardfacing processes. Background technique [0004] Abrasion is a major concern for operators in applications involving sand, rock, or other extremely hard media abrading a surface. Applications that experience severe wear often use high hardness materials as hardfacing coatings. Hardfacing materials generally contain carbides and / or borides as hard precipitates, which wear away and increase the bulk hardness of the material. [0005] Metallurgists are well aware that certain car...
