Abstract

A medical device system (10) may include a guide catheter (11) having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therebetween. The guide catheter is designed to guide a treatment catheter (18) to a target site. A guide wire is disposed within the lumen of the guide catheter. The system also includes a capture balloon catheter (20) including a catheter shaft (22) and a balloon (24) coupled to the catheter shaft. The capture balloon catheter is designed to extend through the lumen of the guide catheter to a location adjacent the distal end of the guide catheter. A balloon holder (26) is captured, which is coupled to the catheter shaft. The capture balloon retainer is designed to prevent the distal end of the capture balloon catheter from extending distally beyond the distal end of the guide catheter.
