Embodiment Construction

[0012] The invention relates to a turbocharger. The turbocharger includes a turbine for expanding the first medium, in particular for expanding the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. Furthermore, the turbocharger comprises a compressor which utilizes the energy extracted in the turbine during the expansion of the first medium for compressing the second medium, in particular charge air. In this case, the turbine comprises a turbine housing and a turbine rotor. The compressor includes a compressor housing and a compressor rotor. The compressor rotor is coupled to the turbine rotor via a shaft mounted in a bearing housing located between and connected to the turbine and compressor housings. Those skilled in the art discussed here are familiar with this basic construction of a turbocharger.

Abstract

A turbocharger, with a turbine (1) for expanding a first medium and a compressor for compressing a second medium utilising energy extracted in the turbine during the expansion of the first medium. Theturbine (1) has a turbine housing (3) with a turbine inflow housing (4) and a turbine rotor (6). The compressor has a compressor housing and a compressor rotor coupled to the turbine rotor (6) via ashaft (7). The turbine housing (3) and the compressor housing are connected to a bearing housing (2) in which the shaft is mounted. The shaft (7) is mounted in the bearing housing (2). The turbine inflow housing (4) and the bearing housing (2) are connected at flanges (9, 10) adjoining one another via fastening devices (11) such that the flange (10) of the turbine inflow housing (4), through whichthe fastening devices (11) extend, extends in the radial direction axially spaced as far as into the range of extent of the turbine rotor (6).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a turbocharger. Background technique [0002] A turbocharger consists of a turbine and a compressor. The turbine of the turbocharger serves to expand the first medium, in particular the exhaust gas, energy being extracted during the expansion of the first medium. The compressor of the turbocharger is used to compress the second medium with the energy extracted during the expansion of the first medium. The turbine of the turbocharger comprises a turbine housing and a turbine rotor, wherein the turbine housing comprises a turbine inlet housing and an insert. The compressor of the turbocharger includes a compressor housing and a compressor rotor. A turbine rotor of the turbine and a compressor rotor of the compressor are coupled to each other via a shaft rotatably mounted in a bearing housing. The bearing housing is connected to the turbine housing and to the compressor housing. [0003] In the case of turbochargers known by ...
