Abstract

The embodiments of the present invention disclose a system and method for detecting the loss of the case of the battery pack of an electric vehicle. The system includes a brittle conductive material layer, a first resistor, a second resistor, a travel switch and a controller; the brittle conductive material layer is disposed on the inner surface of the bottom of the case of the battery pack and comprises a first joint and a second joint which extend continuously in a first direction intersecting the running direction of the electric vehicle; the first resistor is connected in series with the brittle conductive material layer; the second resistor is connected in parallel with the first resistor; the first end of the travel switch is connected with the brittle conductive material layer, andthe second end of the travel switch is connected with the second resistor; when detecting that a distance from the travel switch to the battery pack is smaller than a predetermined threshold, the travel switch is switched from a normally open state to a closed state; the controller is used for sending pulse width modulation (PWM) signals to the first joint, emitting disconnection alarm signals when the controller cannot receive PWM signals from the second joint, and emitting damage alarm signals when confirming that the PWM signals received from the second joint and the PWM signals sent to thefirst joint are equal in duty cycle and are different in amplitude. With the system and method adopted, the complete damage and partial damage of the battery pack can be detected.
