Abstract

The invention provides a method and device for evaluating the sealing ability of a cap layer. The method comprises: stratum logging data of oil and gas wells in a target exploration area are obtained;a corresponding relationship between thicknesses of cap layers of a plurality of oil and gas wells and argillaceous contents of the cap layers is substituted into a two-dimensional coordinate systemestablished by using the thickness values of the cap layers as horizontal coordinates and the argillaceous contents of the cap layers as vertical coordinates; according to the cap layer positions andhydrocarbon reservoir positions of the plurality of oil and gas wells, the oil and gas well coordinate points in the two-dimensional coordinate system are classified into three classes: a class of having the hydrocarbon reservoirs below the cap layers completely, a class of having the hydrocarbon reservoirs above the cap layers completely, and a class of having the hydrocarbon reservoirs above andbelow the cap layers; according to the coordinate points of divided areas in the two-dimensional coordinate system, a cap layer sealing ability evaluation parameter threshold is determined and the sealing ability of a to-be-evaluated cap layer is evaluated. The stratum logging data are available; preparation of lots of cores for the experiment is not needed; the cost is low; and the cap layer sealing ability evaluation accuracy is high.
