The process gas G is compressed in the compressor 2 to a high pressure, for example above 80 bar, or above 250 bar and preferably above 300 bar. In order to improve the durability of the compressor at this high pressure, especially the durability of the compressor seal ring at this high pressure, a lubricant S is used, which is supplied to the compressor. Advantageously, lubricating oil is injected as lubricant S into the compression space of compressor 2 , so that there is a compressed gas stream 3 b containing combustible process gas G and lubricant S, which is fed to device 1 at the outlet of compressor 2 .
