Abstract

The invention relates to an internal combustion engine comprising: a fuel injection system (2) having at least one fuel injector (4), a fuel line (21), a fuel tank (20) and a fuel pump (23) arranged in the fuel line (21); a water spray system (3) comprising a water tank (30), a water line (31) and a water pump (32) arranged in the water line, wherein the fuel injector (4) is arranged directly on acombustion chamber (5) of the internal combustion engine, and wherein the water line (31) opens into the fuel pump (23) in such a way that water can be mixed into the fuel in a line section (21a) between the fuel pump (23) and the fuel injector (4); and a ventilation line (11) which is arranged on the water line (31) in order to ventilate the water line (31) in the event of a shutdown of the internal combustion engine.
