Embodiment Construction

[0026] In general, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a timing recovery mechanism for recovering a clock signal and still retaining the ability to prevent undesired interactions between the adaptive equalizer and the overall timing recovery loop with respect to clock phase recovery. In particular, for equalizer filters (or equalization filters), the offset between the current Center of Filter (COF) value and the nominal COF value is used as a measure of the clock phase correction produced by the adaptive equalization process . In some embodiments, COF may be defined as a function of two selected tap weights or equal to selected tap weights. The tap weights of the equalizer filter are adjusted to reduce the offset, for example by interpolating / extrapolating the selected tap weights based on the offset. In this way, the clock delay correction contributed by the adaptive equalization process is compensated and its potential interaction with the timing recovery process...

Abstract

Systems and methods for timing recovery to recover a clock signal with clock phase correction to reduce interference by an adaptive equalizer. The equalizer in the timing recovery loop dynamically adapts to the current channel characteristics over time. When a good signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is achieved, a selected set of tap weights for the equalizer filter will be frozen or set to a small value, while other sets will continue to adapt and the timing recovery loop will continue clock recovery process. Therefore, the adaptation of the equalization can be adjusted by limiting the adaptation time or speed relative to the entire timing recovery loop, so as to weaken the influence of the equalization filter on the clock delay correction.
