Chiller assembly 100 is shown including compressor 102 driven by electric motor 104 , condenser 106 , and evaporator 108 . The refrigerant circulates through the chiller assembly 100 via a vapor compression cycle. Abstract

A self-centering bearing assembly is provided. The bearing assembly includes a magnetic bearing arrangement configured to support a rotating shaft, and a magnetic bearing support housing. The magnetic bearing housing has a disc shape, and a plurality of tabs extending in an axial direction from an outer diameter portion. The bearing assembly further includes an auxiliary bearing arrangement configured to support the rotating shaft during an auxiliary bearing condition, and an auxiliary bearing support housing. The auxiliary bearing support housing has a disc shape having a first diameter portion and a second diameter portion. The first diameter portion has a larger diameter than the second diameter portion. The tab is configured to couple to the second diameter portion such that the auxiliary bearing support housing is concentric with the magnetic bearing support housing.
