Abstract

The present invention provides a method for improving reproductive performance of mammals after pregnancy by oral administration of melatonin. In the method, the melatonin is added to feeds or drinking water of the mammals, thereby reducing heat stress of pregnant mammals, improving feed intake of the pregnant mammals and achieving a purpose of improving the reproductive performance of the pregnant mammals. The method can increase the number of live births of pregnant sows by 0.5-1, improves average birth weight by 0.1-0.31 kg / one, improves average weaning weight by 0.16-1 kg / one, improves slaughter rate of live pigs, avoids problems of veterinary drug residues, drug withdrawal periods, etc., is safe and effective, ultimately improves production benefits of pig breeding industry and provides a useful reference for further research on improving reproductive performance of the sows.
