Embodiment Construction

[0099] As used herein, the singular forms "a", "an" and "the" include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.

[0100] As used herein, the terms "right", "left", "upper" and their derivatives shall be associated with the present invention based on the orientation of the drawings. With respect to a device or system, the term "proximal end" refers to the portion of the device or system that is closest to the entry site through which the device or system is inserted into the body. For an indwelling urinary tract pump, the proximal portion is the portion of the device or system closest to the urethra. The term "distal end" refers to the end of the device or system that is opposite the proximal end, and for example refers to the part of the device or system that is inserted farthest into the patient's urinary tract. It should be understood, however, that the invention may assume various alternative orientations, and thus these terms should not be considered...

Abstract

A pump assembly is provided, including a pump module configured to be positioned within an interior portion of a ureter and / or renal pelvis of a patient for providing negative pressure to the patient's ureter and / or kidney, the pump module including: a housing including a flow channel for conducting fluid, wherein the housing is configured to be positioned within the interior portion of the ureterand / the renal pelvis; and a pump element positioned within the channel to draw fluid through the channel; and a control module coupled to the pump module, the control module being configured to direct motion of the pump element to control flow rate of fluid passing through the channel, and including a housing configured to be positioned within at least one of a second interior portion of the patient's ureter, a second portion of the patient's renal pelvis, or an interior portion of a patient's bladder.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Patent Application 62 / 550,259, filed August 25, 2017, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. [0003] background technical field [0004] The present disclosure relates to a pump for deployment within a body cavity and, for example, to a pump sized for insertion into and deployment within a patient's urinary tract to induce negative pressure and / or positive pressure pumps. Background technique [0005] The kidneys, or urinary system, consist of a pair of kidneys, each connected to the bladder by a ureter, and a urethra, which is used to drain the urine produced by the kidneys from the bladder. The kidneys perform several vital functions in the body, including, for example, filtering the blood to eliminate waste in the form of urine. The kidneys also regulate electrolytes (such as sodium, potassium, and calcium) and metabolites, blood volume, blo...
