The method for manufacturing a light emitting device comprises the steps of: preparing a substrate and a lower substrate including a buffer semiconductor layer formed on the substrate; forming a separation layer disposed on the lower substrate, forming a first conductivesemiconductor layer, an active material layer, and a second conductive semiconductor layer on the separation layer, and etching the first conductive semiconductor layer, the active material layer, the second conductive semiconductor layer, and the separation layer in a direction perpendicular to the lower substrate to form a device rod; forming a first insulating layer surrounding the outer circumferential surface of the device rod; forming a second insulating layer surrounding the outer circumferential surface of the first insulating layer; and separating the device rod from the lower substrate to form a light emitting device.
