Embodiment Construction

[0040] figure 1An exemplary layout of rack units 10 for a data center 100 according to an embodiment of the present technology is shown. The data center 100 accommodates a plurality of racks 300 in which equipment for serving the data center 100 is stored. For example, racks 300 include computer racks 110 in which computer equipment and associated components may be stored. In this embodiment, the computer equipment stored in the computer rack 110 includes servers and their associated components (e.g., power supplies), so that the computer rack 110 may also be referred to as a "server rack". Rack 300 also includes air handler rack 210. The air handler racks 210 are configured to cool the air circulating therethrough to reduce the temperature of the ambient air within the data center 100. It is contemplated that the air handler rack 210 may be omitted in other embodiments. As can be seen, the racks 300 are arranged in parallel rows 108 which are spaced apart from each other ...

Abstract

A rack arrangement for a data center includes an assembly frame including vertical beams, lateral beams connected to the vertical beams, and transverse beams connected to the vertical beams. The transverse beams extend at least partly in a depth direction of the assembly frame. A rack-supporting platform is connected between two of the lateral beams and extends horizontally between four of the vertical beams. Each rack of a plurality of racks is configured to support computer equipment or cooling equipment for servicing the data center. A first rack is supported at least in part by two of the lateral beams. A second rack is disposed above the first rack and disposed atop the rack-supporting platform. The rack-supporting platform is supported in part by a top portion of the first rack such that a load of the second rack is partly applied on the first rack through the rack-supporting platform. The invention further relates to a method for assembling the rack device for the data center.

Description

technical field [0001] The technology relates to rack mounts for data centers. Background technique [0002] A data center houses many computer systems supported on server racks, usually arranged in rows. It is generally desired to install as many server racks as possible in the data center to efficiently utilize the limited floor space of the data center. [0003] In order to address the limited floor space of data centers, it has been proposed to provide server racks arranged one above the other to take advantage of the vertical space of the data center. However, in this proposed solution, the bulky size and weight of the server racks would be the limiting factor. For example, a frame that can support a server rack must be designed to be strong enough to withstand the heavy load of the server rack. [0004] Accordingly, it would be desirable to have rack mounts for data centers that reduce at least some of these disadvantages. Contents of the invention [0005] The p...
