Embodiment Construction

[0018] The present disclosure provides systems and methods for performing electroporation using asymmetric waveforms. In one embodiment, the present disclosure relates to an electroporation system. The electroporation system includes a catheter including a plurality of electrodes, and a pulse generator coupled to the catheter, the pulse generator configured to generate a waveform to be delivered using at least one of the plurality of electrodes. The waveform includes a first pulse having a first polarity, a first pulse amplitude, and a first pulse width, and a second pulse having a second polarity, a second pulse amplitude, and a second pulse width, wherein the first and second The pulses are separated by an inter-pulse delay and wherein at least one of: i) the first pulse amplitude is different than the second pulse amplitude and ii) the first pulse width is different than the second pulse width.

Abstract

Systems and methods for performing electroporation using asymmetric waveforms are provided. An electroporation system includes a catheter including a plurality of electrodes and a pulse generator coupled to the catheter. The pulse generator is configured to generate a waveform to be delivered using at least one of the plurality of electrodes. The waveform includes: a first pulse having a first polarity, a first pulse amplitude, and a first pulse width; and a second pulse having a second polarity, a second pulse amplitude, and a second pulse width. The first and second pulses are separated by an inter-pulse delay, and at least one of the following is satisfied: i) the first pulse amplitude is different from the second pulse amplitude; and ii) the first pulse width is different from the second pulse width.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure generally relates to tissue ablation systems. In particular, the present disclosure relates to applying electroporation treatments using asymmetric waveforms. Background technique [0002] It is well known that ablation therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions affecting the human anatomy. For example, ablation therapy can be used in the treatment of atrial arrhythmias. When tissue is ablated, or at least subjected to ablation energy generated by an ablation generator and delivered by an ablation catheter, a lesion is formed in the tissue. Electrodes mounted on or in an ablation catheter are used to cause tissue destruction in cardiac tissue to correct conditions such as atrial arrhythmias (including but not limited to, ectopic atrial tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter ). [0003] Cardiac arrhythmias (ie, irregular heart rhythms) can produce a variety of dangerous conditions including loss of sync...
