However, in actual operation, the method of the present invention does not produce frequency hopping of PN sequence values in the frequency synthesizer as conventional hybrid DS / SFH CDMA systems do. Instead, the present invention arbitrarily selects a subset of frequencies from a set of available carriers for parallel transmission. That is, the set of available carriers consists of a set of "on" frequencies and "off" frequencies.
