Abstract

A user equipment (UE) manages a thermal level of an antenna module with reference to a temperature threshold. The UE (102) includes a plurality of antenna modules (111-115) having a first antenna module (111) and a second antenna module (112), and at least one wireless transceiver (206, 208) coupled to the plurality of antenna modules. The UE also includes a processor (210) and memory (212) system implementing an antenna module thermal manager (216). The manager is configured to obtain a first temperature indication (121) corresponding to a first antenna module of the plurality of antenna modules. The manager is further configured to perform a comparison (610) of the first temperature indication to at least one temperature threshold. The manager is further configured to switch from using the first antenna module to using the second antenna module to wirelessly communicate with the at least one wireless transceiver based on the comparison.

Description

Background [0001] Using cellular and some other wireless communication technologies, communication between two endpoints typically has both a wireless part and a wired part. At an endpoint (e.g., a wireless device or "smart phone") at a party near a portion of the communication is established using a wireless connection between the wireless device and the base station, the base station is part of a larger communication network of cellular or other radio access networks. This wireless connection typically extends from a few feet to a few miles. Larger communication networks include wired networks or coupled to wired networks. Thus, the base station can forward the wired portion of the communication over a wired network, using a wired connection. Wired networks can stretch from tens of feet to thousands of miles. If another party at another endpoint of the communication is also using a wireless device, you can convert the communication to another wireless portion and route it to th...
