Problems solved by technology

However, in rare cases, such a distal portion may cause difficulties in sterilizing or reprocessing the distal portion after use
For example, conventional endoscopic devices are fully reusable such that gaps between components or spaces within functional components of the distal portion may be difficult to access and clean

[0046] figure 1 is a schematic diagram of an endoscope system 10 including an imaging and control system 12 and an endoscope 14 . figure 1 The system is suitable for use with the systems, devices and methods described herein - eg, modular endoscope systems, modular endoscopes, and modules for designing, building, using, deconstructing, and reusing endoscopes. Methods - Illustrative examples of endoscopic systems used together. According to some examples, endoscope 14 may be inserted into an anatomical region for imaging and / or to provide access to one or more sampling devices for biopsy or for treating one or more of a disease state associated with the anatomical region Access to more therapeutic devices. In advantageous aspects, the endoscope 14 may interface with and connect to the imaging and control system 12 . In the illustrated example, endoscope 14 includes a duodenoscope, although other types of endoscopes may also be used with the features and teachings of the pres...

Abstract

A modular endoscopic system comprising a first modular section comprising an imaging unit and an illumination unit and a second modular section insertable into a patient, the second modular section being detachable from the first modular section via an attachment mechanism, the first modular section is positionable at a distal end section of the second modular section and is configured to illuminate and image a portion of a patient anatomy. A method of using a modular endoscope system, the method comprising: attaching a first modular section of the modular endoscope system to a second modular section of the modular endoscope system; positioning at least a portion of the modular endoscopic system within the patient; illuminating and imaging a portion of the patient anatomy via the first modular section; removing the modular endoscopic system from the patient; and detaching the second modular section from the first modular section after removing the modular endoscope system from the patient.
