Problems solved by technology

The situation is exacerbated when one or more memory requests are submitted simultaneously from a graphics controller and the system processor
Prior art memory controllers simply utilize a round-robin priority method in which memory access requesters capable of making memory requests switch after each memory request. Such a round-robin priority method reduces the ability to receive consecutive reads or writes Chances of requests to the same memory bank, but increases the number of read / write transitions and the number of consecutive requests to the same memory bank, thus increasing memory access latency in some cases

Embodiment Construction

[0021] One of the preferred embodiments of the present invention is figure 2 As shown, a separate page collector 24 is placed between a processor 22 and a memory controller 26 . Alternatively, the functionality of page collector 24 may be incorporated into memory controller 26 or designed into processor 22 .

[0022] The page collector 24, as will be more apparent below, reorders memory requests before they are sequentially entered into the memory controller 26. This reordering operation speeds up memory accesses. In particular, one of the functions of page collector 24 is to hold write requests as long as possible and send read requests to memory controller 26 as quickly as possible. Another function of the page collector 24 is to use multiple buffers in order to group write request packets to the same page so that the adverse consequences of page loss are reduced. Furthermore, the page collector 24 also provides a cache-like mechanism to maintain data coherence.

Abstract

In 3D image data encoding method, traditional 3D interlaced scanning video image is converted by special software to image with split upper and lower pictures, say, an upper image for the left eye and the lower image for the right eye. The video image documents are then data compressed with MPEG. The compressed video image document with split picture is output to the 3D image generator for treatment via the MPEG player or MPEG decoder. After that, the viewer wearing 3D glasses can view 3D dynamic video picture without glint in a CRT display.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to memory access of a computer system, and more specifically relates to a page collector for improving the performance of memory access operations in a computer system. Background technique [0002] Computer systems rely on memory systems to store instructions as well as data for processing by processors, and memory devices have undergone dramatic advances in both storage capacity and speed. However, the speed of memory devices has not been able to keep pace with the increase in speed of current microprocessors. As a result, the speed of the most advanced computer systems is limited by the speed at which data and instructions can be accessed from the memory devices. [0003] In a typical computer system, the processor communicates with the memory via a processor bus and a memory controller. A typical bulk memory system includes a single in-line memory module (SIMM) and a dual in-line memory module. (dualin-line memory mod...
