Abstract

A method for monitoring the overall performance of a file system (100) in the event of a failure is provided. The file system has N storage devices (108), where N is an integer greater than zero, and N primary file servers (104), each file server operatively connected to a corresponding storage device (110) to access the document. The file system additionally has an auxiliary file server (104a) operatively connected to at least one of the N storage devices. The method includes: when one of the N primary file servers fails, switching the connection of one of the N storage devices to the secondary file server; switching the connection of the remaining one or more storage devices to a different The main file server of the file server, to prevent loss of performance and provide a running file server for each storage device.
