Problems solved by technology

[0003] The disadvantage of this detection method is that only the insulation conditions related to the substrate can be detected, which only represent a part of the dielectric stack used for power components, while the insulation conditions related to the packaging of the components, for example, cannot be detected

Embodiment Construction

[0028] For ease of reading of the drawings, only elements necessary for understanding the invention are shown in the drawings. Like elements are identified with the same reference numerals in the various figures.

[0029] Fig. 1 shows a power assembly 1 of an on-board energy converter of a railway vehicle tested according to the prior art method of IEC standard 1287-1.

[0030] The power assembly 1 to be tested includes three power elements 2 electrically connected in parallel and supported by a metal base plate 8 . Each power element 2 (detailed separately in FIG. 2 ) comprises a dielectric substrate 5 supporting an IGBT 3 and an associated diode 4 connected in antiparallel, which makes the current flow in the power element 1 reversible. IGBT 3 and diode 4 are usually covered with a dielectric gel.

[0031] Each IGBT 3 consists of a collector 10, an emitter 11 and a conventional control gate 12 for controlling its on and off. The control gate circuits 12 of the three IGBTs...

Abstract

A method of testing a power module including a control gate, an emitter, a collector, at least one power component on a dielectric substrate and a diode connected in antiparallel with the power component measures partial discharges occurring between the emitter and the collector when an alternating current voltage source superimposed on a direct current voltage source is connected between the collector and the emitter of the power module. The voltage Vtest received by the power module between the collector and the emitter verifies at all times the condition Vtest>0 so that the diode never conducts. The power component is maintained in a turned off state during the test by means of a direct current voltage source connected between the control gate and the emitter.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for testing electrical components, and more particularly to a testing method for checking the correct insulation condition of the electrical components. The invention is particularly suitable for detecting electric components of vehicle-mounted energy converters in railway vehicles. The invention also relates to a device for implementing the detection method of the invention. Background technique [0002] International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard 1287-1 discloses a method for testing on-board energy converters in railway vehicles, the purpose of which is to check the correct insulation condition of identical converters. In this method, the main terminals of the converter, current collector, emitter and gates controlling all semiconductor components are connected together, and then when the interconnected terminals and the supporting dielectric substrate (the dielectric substrate is used to carry...
