An inductive power supply system to identify remote devices using unique identification frequencies. The system includes an AIPS and a tank circuit capable of inductively providing power to a remote device at different frequencies, and a sensor for sensing the reflected impedance of the remote device at tank circuit. The system further includes a plurality of different remote devices, each having a unique resonance frequency. In operation, the AIPS is capable of identifying the type of remote device present in the inductive field by applying power to a remote device at a plurality of unique identification frequencies until the remote device establishes resonance in response to one of the identification frequencies. The AIPS includes a controller that recognizes when resonance has been established by evaluating sensor data, which is representative of the reflected impedance of the remote device. Once the identity of a remote device is determined, the AIPS may pull operating parameters for the remove device from memory to ensure efficient operation and to assist in recognizing fault conditions.

A method of and system for monitoring condition of a large capacitor connected across an output of a rectifier circuit in an operating electrical power transmission circuit in order to anticipate capacitor failure and facilitate appropriate corrective action is disclosed. The method includes measuring a ripple voltage on the capacitor and ripple current through the capacitor, determining from a representative signal whether the signal exceeds a predetermined threshold; and sending an output to a controller on a system operator if the signal exceeds the predetermined threshold. The ripple current and ripple voltage measurements may be provided as inputs to a digital to analog converter which produces and sends the representative signal to a microprocessor to generate the output to the controller.

A photovoltaic power generator with safety shutdown system includes a plurality of solar panel strings, a combiner, and a plurality of solar safety switches electrically disposed between a plurality of DC outputs of the plurality of solar panels strings and a plurality of DC inputs of the combiner. Each solar safety switch is associated with one of the solar panel strings and includes a solid-state device and a close actuator. The solid-state device of each solar safety switch is connected between the positive and negative terminals of the DC output of its associated solar panel string. The close actuator in each solar safety switch controls whether its associated solid-state device is turned on or is turned off. During normal operating conditions, the close actuators prevent their respective solid-state devices from turning on. However, in the event of a fire, the close actuators cause their associated solid-state devices to turn on, thereby effectively short-circuiting the DC outputs of their associated solar panel strings and preventing the solar panel strings from producing high voltages.

An energy monitoring system which in preferred embodiments employs at least one nodal junction receiving and creating data by analog to digital conversion from a plurality of local node sensors. Data accumulated by the nodal junction is used for analysis of wave patterns to detect anomalies in the local electrical network and/or loads connected to the local electrical network. Anomalies can be detected in various ways, including: comparison of data with historical data acquired from the local node sensors; comparison of data with known wave pattern profiles for similar loads; and comparison of data with data acquired from local node sensors at other locations. The present invention relates to an apparatus capable of diagnosing the aging state of a power conversion system at ordinary times and its diagnosing method to ensure the reliability of a power conversion system. The apparatus includes a current sensing means for detecting the output current of a inverter switching module or an electrolytic capacitor, and measurement and diagnosis means for extracting elements related to the aging status of the power conversion system by receiving the output current waveform of the inverter switching module and magnitude of each harmonic or an impedance voltage signal of the electrolytic capacitor. Furthermore, it is preferable that the apparatus further includes a measurement current generation means for generating measurement current to be supplied to the electrolytic capacitor. By analyzing an average value or the magnitude of harmonics by FFT analysis of the output current waveform of the inverter switching module and measuring an ESR value or a loss angle tan δ of a DC bus of the power conversion system, the present invention is able to monitor and diagnose the abnormal state attributable to the aging or degradation of the power conversion system in advance.
