Embodiment 1

[0072] A functional film (referred to as SRF) was treated with a primer solution containing isopropyl tetratitanate. The functional film is an infrared reflective multilayer polymer film with a thickness of about 51 μm, as described in US Patent Application 09 / 590924. The functional film was coated with a 0.5% by weight solution of Dupont TYZOR (isopropyl tetratitanate "TPT") in isopropanol. The primer solution was prepared by mixing TYZOR into isopropanol in a 55 gallon drum equipped with a drum agitator. After mixing, the primer solution was sent to a transfer gravure roll coater, and the organic titanate primer solution was applied to the functional film with a 150 line gravure roll. The coated functional film was pulled at a speed of 120 feet per minute (61 cm / sec) through a 10 foot long oven heated to 66°C to dry the functional film. Both sides of the functional film were coated as described above.

[0073] The organic titanate primed functional film was laminated to a...

Abstract

Glazing prelaminates and glazing laminates for vehicular and architectural applications are described. The glazing prelaminate includes a functional film (830) adhered to a shock dissipating layer (810) with an adhesive region (820) between the functional film (830) and the shock dissipating layer (810). The adhesive region contains a reacted organic titanate primer. The glazing prelaminate can be prepared at temperatures lower than about 120 [deg.]F (49 [deg.]C). Methods of preparing the glazing prelaminate and the glazing laminate are provided.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application 60 / 313,186, filed August 17,2001. field of invention [0003] The present invention relates to clear prelaminates and clear laminates. More specifically, the present invention relates to clear prelaminates and clear laminates prepared with organic titanate primers. Background of the invention [0004] Clear laminates commonly used in the automotive and construction sectors generally consist of a plasticized poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) energy-absorbing or shock-absorbing layer positioned between two clear glass or plastic sheets. The preparation method of the laminated board is as follows: the PVB layer is placed between two glass plates, the air between the joint surfaces is eliminated, and then the assembly is heated and pressurized in an autoclave, so that the PVB and the two glass plates or The plastic sheets are melted and bonded together. Such clear laminates also ...
