[0015] In the system shown in FIG. 1 , the three-phase mixture in a slurry reactor 1 (sometimes referred to as a bubble column reactor) flows into an overflow conduit 2 and then into a vertical separation conduit 3 . The gas bubbles in the gas separation duct flow upwards into the reactor outlet duct 4 . In this separation duct, the liquid phase and the solid catalyst particles flow down into the duct 5 which extends along the cylindrical dynamic settler 6 for about 80% of the settler height. The slurry is discharged through line 5 as a free jet flowing into the outlet hole of the settler and then returned to the reactor via line 7 . Since the catalyst particles (which are much denser than wax) must reverse direction in order to flow upwards in this annular region, the annular region 8 surrounding the pipe 5 contains wax substantially free of catalyst particles.
