Problems solved by technology

[0005] However, prior art methods and routers have the disadvantage that MPLS tunnels can easily cause traffic overflow, since the estimated bandwidth of the tunnel is communicated by the network administrator and reserved for a particular tunnel, so this predicted value may be incorrect. Practical, may also cause congestion problems
Currently there is no traffic management method to solve the traffic problem of MPLS channel

Embodiment Construction

[0016] The invention applies to packet networks, such as the Internet domain, where there are predetermined label-switched paths or tunnels in addition to computing each router's IP forwarding or next-hop from the header of each incoming IP packet. An ingress router I is shown in the accompanying drawing, where IP packets will arrive at ingress pages (blades) IB1˜IBk. The figure shows an IP packet arriving at the entry page IB1. The decision to determine whether an incoming IP packet is to be forwarded from this ingress router I to an egress router (not shown in the figure) using conventional IP routing or via an MPLS tunnel is made by the FIB query device (labeled FIB) within the ingress router of. This FIB query means can also determine which egress page of the ingress router 1 is utilized and which egress interface of the egress page is used to send packets to. The solution for selecting the egress page EB1 and its egress interface ITF-1 is given in the figure. In the em...

Abstract

A method for engineering traffic between an ingress router and an egress router of a packet network, whereby the traffic is scheduled within the ingress router in queues pertaining to different service classes, and whereby part of the traffic follows a dedicated tunnel between the ingress and egress routers, includes the step of provisioning of a tunnel queue dedicated to the part of the traffic intended to flow via the dedicated tunnel, for separately and temporarily storing the part of the traffic towards the dedicated tunnel, and a further step of shaping the part of the traffic towards the dedicated tunnel before entering the traffic tunnel. Further embodiments include the provisioning of a set of queues, pertaining to the different service classes, to one or more of these dedicated traffic tunnels, as well as the provisioning of associated shapers.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of managing traffic, in particular to a method of managing traffic between an ingress router and an egress router of a packet network, said traffic being carried out in queues corresponding to different service types of said ingress router Scheduling; the invention also relates to an ingress router implementing said method. Background technique [0002] This method is known in the prior art, for example: RFC 3270 from the IETF working group, which is in the Internet http: / / IETF.org / rfc.html It can be found on the Internet, and its name is "Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Support of Differentiated Services". [0003] The above article describes the basic principle of queuing packets according to service type (called behavior set, BA for short) in an ingress router of a packet network (for example, the Internet). Another RFC on the same website, numbered RFC3290, provides a supplementary description of th...
