Embodiment Construction

[0019] A method and apparatus for locating buried bodies using parametric transformations are disclosed. figure 1 is an embodiment of an apparatus 100 for identifying buried bodies using parameter transformation according to the present invention. The device 100 includes a clip 102, a transmitter 104, a receiver 106, and a signal processor 108 (including a matching processor and a positioning processor, not shown). Clip 102 may be, for example, an induction clip or a conductive clip. In an embodiment according to the invention, the transmitter 104 and the receiver 106 include a certain number of transmit and receive array elements, respectively. For example, if figure 2 As depicted in the block diagram of FIG. 2 , the receiver 106 includes an array of receiver elements 202 arranged perpendicular to the direction of the receiver 106 . Alternatively, receiver 106 may be a composite array, ie, a single receiver moved across the ground to simulate an array.

Abstract

An apparatus for locating a target object using parametric inversion employs a signal injector (606), wherein at least a portion of the target object (610) is buried, a magnetic field receiver (802), a matching processor (604) for matching to a magnetic field received by the magnetic field receiver (802) a parametric magnetic field distribution model corresponding to the target object and at least one other object, and a locating processor (604) for locating the target object (610) using parameters from the parametric magnetic field distribution model. A method for locating a target object (610) using parametric inversion injects a signal into the target object (610), at least a portion of which is buried, receives a magnetic field radiated from the target object, matches to the received magnetic field a parametric magnetic field distribution model corresponding to the target object and at least one other object, and locates the target object (610) using parameters from the parametric magnetic field distribution model.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a parameter conversion system and method, and more particularly to a parameter conversion system and method for locating objects. Background technique [0002] During excavation it is important to have an accurate map of the subsurface to avoid damage to existing facilities such as water, gas and power lines. For example, when a new pipeline is to be installed in an area, the location of any existing pipelines in the area must be known in order to avoid damaging them when digging trenches for the new pipeline. The lack of accurate surface maps for construction sites results in thousands of pipeline failures each year, costing billions in repairs. [0003] Using conventional pipeline locating devices, a single frequency current is injected into a pipeline, and the magnetic field of this current is measured above ground using a single hand-held device. If there is only a single straight pipe, conventional pipe locating ...
